HOLLENBECK is a walk through the material decomposition of an urban, rural, and psychic environment. The protagonist is loosely based on John Edward Hollenbeck, a wealthy industrialist who helped establish Los Angeles along with Lankershim Van Nuys and Luther Burbank; both of whom are subsequent neighbors of Hollenbeck in the Evergreen Cemetery located in Boyle Heights. The piece follows the character as he navigates between death, life, and love, blending the stark reality of the barren landscape with fantastical interpretations of his life past.
